About Us

In 2018, Zionsville mothers Amber Nunes and Carrie-Ann Jordan, both Advance Practice Nurses, began a crusade against the unseen pandemic of suicide. Their efforts started with suicide prevention trainings in the community. Soon after, the world began to face the harsh toll of the COVID-19 pandemic in terms not only of deaths, but also economic impacts and the effects of isolation on our collective psyche. Nunes and Jordan partnered with Zionsville Town Councilman and physician, Dr. Alex Choi, to create the Zionsville Alliance for Mental Wellness (Zamwell). What started as a self-funded, private partnership grounded in over fifty collective years in the medical field, has grown into a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Our vision is to encourage and support a prevention-based response to the current mental health crisis. Our board of directors is strong and dynamic, filled with people who have a passion for mental health. In June 2023 we hired our first executive director. When Kristen Bitzegaio joined the Zamwell team, she brought more than 20 years of nonprofit expertise to the table. The Board and executive director work together closely to advance the mission of Zamwell to cultivate a community that embraces mental wellness. We do that through offering educational events, digital resources, keeping an up-to-date directory of local mental health care providers, and other services as we grow.
